Vince Ambrosia is an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Applied Environmental Sciences, College of Science, California State University – Monterey Bay. He recently retired (2023) after 43-years serving as a Senior Scientist at NASA-Ames Research Center in California focusing on enhancing earth observation capabilities in support of wildland fire science and management. From 2013 to 2023 he was the Associate Program Manager for the Wildland Fire portfolio in the Applied Science (Earth Action) Program at NASA HQ. He has received numerous awards from NASA and sister agencies, including the 2009 NASA Outstanding Public Service Medal for supporting emergency wildfire observations with UAS / sensors; the 2009 Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer, Interagency Partnership Award for improving the U.S. wildfire observations, and most recently the 2022 NASA Outstanding Public Leadership Medal for “exemplary sustained leadership and invaluable intellectual and operational contributions in wildland fire science and management”. He is the author / co-author of over 140 papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and presentations. Although retiring in 2023, he continues to serve the wildfire science and applications community on review panels and several Scientific Advisory Boards in both the U.S. and Europe.
